The luxury clothing and accessory retailer appeared on the market in 1899, albeit under a different name. It was then that Herman Bergdorf opened a tailor shop in Manhattan. His apprentice, Edwin Goodman, turned out to be the case of the student that defeated the master. In 1901, the company’s name was changed to the name we know today.
